Mission Involvement as a Part of the Village

Children's Missions 2 min read

According to Dr. James Dobson, “American parents are intentional about many aspects of their children’s lives; education, athletics, the arts. Yet, how intentional are we about our children’s spiritual lives outside of Sunday school and an occasional prayer time?”

How can we, as the church, come alongside parents and make a difference in the spiritual lives of children?

The phrase “it takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that emphasizes the importance of a supportive community in a child’s development. It suggests that raising a child requires the involvement of various individuals, including family, neighbors, community members, and professionals, all working together to provide a nurturing and positive environment. We have a responsibility to be a part of the village in our communities. The children need to be introduced to Jesus!

Baptists on Mission offers opportunities for our children to be involved in different types of hands-on mission projects, including dikids overnight mission camps, and one–day mission events. Not only are the children experiencing the joy of serving others (following the example of Jesus), but working in the community allows others to be a positive influence on the children as well! For example, when children serve at an assisted living facility, they interact with adults who have lived many years and can show genuine love for this younger generation. It helps validate their worth in the world and the need to love and serve others as Jesus tells us to do!

Help the children in your church glorify God by getting involved in meeting the needs of others in Jesus’ name.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
